Does your baby have, or do you suspect, Torticollis, Plagiocephaly, or Flat-head Syndrome? If so, this A Parent's Guide to Torticollis & Plagiocephaly course is for you! This course is intended to answer common questions parents have about Torticollis and Plagiocephaly (T&P). It addresses many questions I have been asked over the last 15 years as a Doctor of Physical Therapy while evaluating and treating T&P. I wrote this class from the perspective of both a physical therapist and a mother who has been through the T&P journey herself. I have had the same worries and fears for my child as you my be experiencing now.
This course has been approved for 0.5 Contact Hours (0 CEUs) of REHS Continuing Education Credits (Public Health Accreditation #044).
This course will help explain what T&P is, how your child may have developed it, and when to initiate a physical therapy evaluation and treatment. It will explain what to do if your pediatrician keeps telling you not to worry but your “mom instincts” keep telling you otherwise.
The course includes 50 easy-to-understand slides with plenty of pictures and videos for the visual learner. This course is not intended to replace a physical therapy evaluation, assessment, or treatments, it will discuss how to best navigate and manage T&P.
You will learn how T&P might affect your child’s ability to roll, sit, crawl and walk, and provides a few tricks on how to best get your child caught up on those developmental milestones. You will learn some of the best positions and common stretches performed for T&P.
We will also discusses the very stressful topic of cranial remodeling bands and helmets used to correct an abnormally shaped skull, also known as plagiocephaly or brachycephaly. This course covers the typical process of how to get a helmet, what to expect at your first appointment, and common issues that arise during the helmet portion of your baby’s treatment.
After completing this course you will feel more confident and better equipped to assist your child through the his or her T&P journey!
