Overview

Training on the subject of Hydrogen Sulfide, or H2S, is essential for all oil and gas workers who could be exposed to H2S during the course of their work activities.

The level of training needed depends on the exposure level. Workers potentially exposed to low concentrations typically can take an awareness level training, while workers exposed to higher levels of H2S at or above the Occupational Exposure Limit (OEL) would likely require our more detailed, 6-hour Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) Certification course.

This 2-hour OSHA Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) Awareness (2-hour OSHA H2S Awareness Online) course helps fulfill the training requirements of OSHA 29 CFR 1910 and 1926, as well as State OSHA standards. It also addresses the requirements for Canada under WHMIS and CCOHS.

For those who need awareness training, but require the training to meet the ANSI Z390.1 standard, we offer a 4-hour OSHA/ANSI Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) Awareness Online course that contains the required items in order to meet the ANSI H2S standard.

Keep in mind that while this course provides information on the hazards of the gas, as well as ways to prevent and respond to exposure, you may require additional training in the use of company specific protective equipment and procedures. Training in equipment use and procedures should be provided by your employer and specific to your worksite.

What is an Occupational Exposure Limit (OEL)?
There are numerous exposure levels defined by several regulatory agencies and organizations. One term becoming more popular regarding H2S is 'Occupational Exposure Limit' (OEL). An OEL is a threshold, set by regulatory or advisory bodies, that defines the maximum allowable concentration of a hazardous substance in the workplace air that workers can be exposed to over a specific period without causing adverse health effects. This is similar to a TLV™ or OSHA PEL. However, many employers use the term OEL to refer to the exposure level adopted by the employer or facility. It is important to understand the required or adopted OEL for the site you are working on.
