This 24 Hour Handling Hazardous Waste
(24 Hour HAZWOPER for TSDF's) course addresses what employers and employees need to know about handling hazardous waste under the different regulatory agencies, per 29 CFR 1910.120.
This course has been approved for 24 Contact Hours (2.4 CEUs) of REHS Continuing Education Credits (Public Health Accreditation #044).
Whether you work for a large or small generator of hazardous waste, a hazardous waste treatment, storage, or disposal facility (TSDF), or transport hazardous waste, you are required to receive training. However, it is not always clear what the scope of this training should be or who requires you to receive training.
For example, if you work for a small-quantity generator of hazardous waste, your employer is not required to have an established training program under RCRA regulations, and is only required to ensure employees handling hazardous waste are familiar with proper handling and emergency procedures.
However, under OSHA and 29 CFR 1910.120, training in the physical and health hazards of chemicals in the work area and training in working with toxic chemicals is required as part of an established Safety and Health Program.
On the other hand, if you work for a large-quantity generator, training is required under both RCRA and OSHA. Furthermore, if you transport the hazardous waste you generate off your site (or treat or store it), you are required to meet the many Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations (49 CFR) that govern the transportation of hazardous materials, as is anyone in the business of transporting your hazardous waste for you.
Many employers, seeing that the training requirements under OSHA that address TSDFs are found in the HAZWOPER regulations, have sent their employees to take HAZWOPER training, which does not meet the complex interwoven training and information requirements for managing and handling hazardous waste under RCRA, OSHA, and the DOT.
This training will take a minimum of 24 hours to complete. Our standard 3-day delivery format is three consecutive 8-hour days. Other options are available for client-hosted classes.
This course is intended for anyone involved in the management or handling of hazardous waste, whether you work for a generator or a treatment, storage, or disposal facility, or transport such waste.
This classroom training is offered as open enrollment at our training facility or as on-site training hosted by the employer. You can request a quote for on-site training conducted at your location. This training requires hands-on experience and cannot be conducted online.
Each student who successfully completes this course will be issued a Fed-OSHA Certificate of Completionfrom Safety Unlimited, Inc. in accordance with 29 CFR 1910.120.
This course is also intended to meet any HAZWOPER training requirements for the EPA and State OSHA regulations. Students will also be mailed a PVC Wallet ID Card with an optional photo.
