In the 90's it was primarily safety-based classroom training. In the early 2000's we added online training and training on CD-ROM. Now, by request of many of our current customers, I am excited to present our new line of over 700 safety products in a wide array of topics. To see our product line, please visit our new product store. Unlike many of our competitors who typically listen to consultants and board members, we listen to our customers. So please continue to give us feedback on what you would like to see us provide for you in the future and we will try real hard to meet your needs. Thank you for your support and input. Sincerely, [ back to top ] Confined Space Awareness Training A confined space is any space that has limited or restricted means of entry or exit and is large enough for a person to enter and perform tasks. Anyone who works around confined spaces should be trained in confined space awareness. Our Confined Space Awareness Training can be taken online, and is designed to be used as part of a Confined Space Program. This means that this training, while not sufficient in itself, is still a good place to start for those who will be working in or around confined spaces. Ultimately, workers who are required to enter confined space need to complete their training in a hands-on setting where they can practice the skills they will be using on the job. While some may not be aware that this course is available, some of our corporate users have already added this course to their account. The objectives of this course are to meet the Federal OSHA Confined Space Training requirements of 29 CFR 1910.1469(g) for the awareness level. The course will take approximately 1 hour to complete. One of the ways to do this—as many readers already know—is through taking training online as opposed to in a classroom. However, what some do not realize is that there is another way to save even more money. This is through buying in bulk. Safety Unlimited offers the option for Volume Pricing with Advance Purchasing. Volume Pricing with Advance Purchasing applies to buying a specific number of online courses to be used at the present time or at a later date. There are no expiration dates on Advance Purchase courses. For the OSHA 8 Hour HAZWOPER Refresher and most other online courses, volume discounts start at 100 students. Volume Pricing with Advance Purchasing requires payment at the time of purchase. Payment can be made via credit card or check via a purchase order. Since Volume Pricing with Advance Purchasing involves payment at the time of purchase, it does not apply to Corporate Accounts and monthly invoicing. For more information, contact us at 888-309-7233 or email us at info@safetyunlimited.com. [ back to top ] A Well-rounded Training Program In this day and age you can receive training in a variety of ways. Your training can be done in a classroom, in a hands-on environment, or even online. While all of these types of training have their own advantages and disadvantages, the fact is that no type of training is going to benefit all people in all situations. One example is that some training is ideally suited for the classroom or online, while other training, like that done to operate specific machinery, must be done in a hands-on setting, most likely at the actual job site. Therefore, the overall lesson to learn is that there is no single type of training that will be perfect in all situations. The best option for any student should be to have a well-rounded training program. This involves incorporating training from a variety areas including classroom training, hands on training, online training, and multimedia training, such as CD-ROM, DVD, or video. Doing this will best increase your confidence, understanding, and application of the subject matter. [ back to top ] |

Radon Everyone knows the harmful effects of cigarette smoking. However, did you know what is the second leading cause of lung cancer deaths in the United States? According to the EPA, over 20,000 lung cancer deaths each year are a result of radon, making it the second largest cause of lung cancer deaths. This figure can be found in the EPS’s most recent health risk assessment. Unfortunately, since it is a colorless and odorless gas, radon cannot be seen or smelt. The only way to find out if radon exists in your home is to test for it. Luckily, a radon test kit can be obtained from a variety of places, usually for free. For more information on radon and testing your home, follow this link to the EPA. [ back to top ] Give Yourself a Break—You’ve Earned It According to studies, taking breaks allows you to work more effectively and productively. Short periods of rest allow you to recharge, refocus, and work at high levels for longer stretches, letting you get more work done than if you worked non-stop. An effective break may be to take a short walk to another area for a moment to clear your head before resuming your task. Breaks are especially important for those who work around hazardous materials and may need to wear protective clothing or equipment. Taking breaks not only reduces exposure time, it also allows workers to recover their energy and reduce the likelihood of heat stress. Although breaks are not legally required by OSHA, 22 states have laws that require uncompensated meal periods, and most employers understand the benefit of offering breaks to their employees. [ back to top ] Live Support Do you have a question about a course, or course material, but don’t have access to a phone? Good news—you don’t need one! Live Support allows you to speak directly to an operator using an internet chat session with just a click of a button. All you need to do is click on the Live Support icon to begin. This icon is available on the Safety Unlimited main page beside the login area and on the left-hand side of your student page. Clicking on this icon will bring up a Customer Support Messenger window, which will ask you to provide your name and enter a question. After you have entered these items, just click Start Chat and you will be immediately connected to an operator in a chat window. Once an operator responds, they will answer your question and help you resolve any problems you may have. What is more, you don’t need to limit yourself to a single question. After your questions have been answered and you close the chat window, a brief quality of support survey will pop up asking you to rate the politeness and proficiency of the operator. Live Support is available any time the Live Support icon is visible. [ back to top ] |
